a multimedia oral history project documenting the stories of parents, students, and educators on their journeys to Self-Directed Education in the Metro Atlanta area
Suggestions for How to Navigate this Website:
Start by browsing the highlights of each interview to see which narrator you connect with most. Then consider listening to that individual’s full interview. Interviews range in length from 90 minutes to four hours. I know, I know, that seems like a crazy amount of time to invest in consuming content in the age of Snapchat and Twitter. I advise taking in the full interviews as you would a podcast or an audiobook. Put it on while you’re doing the laundry, driving to work, or walking the dog.
The process of creating this project through connecting one-on-one with community members has made me confident that the tradition of oral storytelling still has a place in the modern world. I hope you will reach the same conclusion after interacting with these narratives and individuals! I also urge you to honor the vulnerability of the narrators for sharing their life histories. Happy listening : )
